The UNSW team members travelled to Ghent, Belgium this August to attend the 7th International Conference on Recrystallization and Grain Growth (ReX&GG). The conference provided lots of valuable new insights about microstructural evolution and included a variety of interesting presentations from diverse areas of study within materials science, including the field of additive manufacturing. All three team members gave talks about their work, with Sophie’s and Nima’s being invited speakers. All three presentations were well received and led to interesting discussions.
The team also had productive meetings with several current and potential future collaborators and the conference had plenty of social events that provided good opportunities for networking and to learn more about the beautiful host city and the nearby Bruges. Ryan also attended a DREAM.3D workshop, hosted by one of the developers of the software, in order to learn more about reconstruction and analysis.
